Berlin, home of the Interbau 1957, an architectural showcase mainly in the post-war, destroyed district of Hansaviertel .

Over 50 renowned architects from all over the world constructed a new Hansaviertel.

Inspired by Oscar Niemeyer’s contribution to the Interbau, I analyzed todays Hansaviertel. Original imagery from 1957 showed a perfectly constructed quarter, immaculate streets with stylish emptiness and perfectly manicured gardens surrounding contemporary architecture, all in mostly perfect size ratio. As in a perfect architects scaled model.

Today the architecture is mostly the same but the sprawling vegetation has changed the proportions and the once dominant monolith-like structures become slightly more equal players in the struggle between nature and concrete.

Using the effects of infrared photography, the chlorophyll playfully and with a fair amount of kitsch reminds of the steady growth of plants.
